#3 Hand
The hand gesture is that used to connote death or sleep but in a way that is ‘nicer’ for the audience to see (for example it is used in Snow White).
The Poppy symbolises ‘eternal sleep’, fitting for the fact that Briar-Rose has been consumed by flowers.
The nightingale is said to symbolise ‘a cry for help from a poor soul in purgatory”. This emphasises the theme of distress in the image without creating a distressing image. The fact that the nightingale’s mouth is open (squawking/singing) adds to the drama.
